Manos Achladianakis

Biography

Manos Achladianakis comes from Sitia, Crete and he is a restorer of antiquities and works of art. Since 2002, he has worked in several different locations in Greece such as the Cycladic and Dodecanese Islands, as well as Agio Oros in Mount Athos and the Royal Tombs of Vergina. Outside Greece, he has been a team member of the archaeological mission in Failaka Island, Kuwait and in 2017 he participated in the study and conservation of frescos by the modernist painter Almada Negreiros, in Lisbon. He has also been a faculty member of the conservation school at the Institution of vocational training (I.E.K.) of Veria, as well as teaching fresco and mosaic making techniques in the School of Byzantine Arts in the Monastery of Panagia Dovra in Veria.

In addition to his conservation and teaching career, he is interested in experimenting with a wide variety of artistic mediums such as clay, mosaics, fresco, Fayyoum portraits, Byzantine Hagiography and recycled art. In 2010, he opened his first exhibition on recycled art (Sitia) and in 2016, participated in the “Mosaics of Alexander the Great” exhibition organized by the Society for Macedonian Studies (Thessaloniki). Currently, he works as a restorer of antiquities in the Conservation Laboratory of the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos, Crete.
